About George Washington

Martha Washington

As one of the leading Patriots, he was among the nation's Founding Fathers. In 1787, he was elected president of the convention that wrote the U.S. Constitution. Two years later, Washington became America’s first president.

George Washington (1732-99) was commander in chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War (1775-83) and served two terms as the first U.S. president, from 1789 to 1797.

While a private man when it came to his personal religious beliefs, George Washington worked tirelessly to ensure people of all religions had the right to practice within the United States.

George was born February 22, 1732 at Popes Creek, Colony of Virginia, British America. He died Dec 14, 1799, Mount Vernon, Virginia, U.S.
